High School Academy
Supported by Space Florida & the NASA/Florida Space Grant Consortium
Space Florida & the NASA/Florida Space Grant Consortium hold programs for High School students. Applications are now being accepted for these 5-day Space Workshops which are held at the Center for Space Education, Kennedy Space Center. These Workshops provide opportunities for students to be engaged in stimulating science and math activities. In addition, they offer students the opportunity to be an aerospace engineer for a week and build an instrument package that will be launched on a weather balloon to a height of 100,000 feet (20 miles). Students compete in exciting games and events that are based on science and math principles, showing them the relevance of math and science in every-day life. They also conduct scientific investigations, partake in hands-on experiments and learn problem-solving skills.
An eighty (80) word essay and science or math teacher Letter of Recommendation is required, separate from the online application. Write in your own words, by your own hand, an 80 word essay describing why you are interested in attending the Space Florida Academy. Your science and math teacher's Letter of Recommendation shall be on your school's letterhead.
