Space Florida Partners With Florida Space Grant Consortium To Present Math, Arts & Science Program For Students

CAPE CANAVERAL, Fla. (May 8, 2008) –Space Florida and the Florida Space Grant Consortium officials are pleased to present a new educational program in which high achieving and talented youth are exposed to challenging learning opportunities covering math, arts and science.

The Math Arts Science Achievement (MASA) program is intended to offer gifted 2nd through 8th graders a comfortable and safe environment where they can engage in activities that will inspire a pursuit of careers that rely on math and science skills.

"Space Florida actively supports educational and workforce initiatives that will provide a qualified workforce that meet the needs of our future efforts in space," said Steve Kohler, President, Space Florida. "The MASA program is just one of tool to achieve this objective. By reaching some of the brightest students in our state, we can inspire and engage them at the youngest ages possible."

MASA sessions will take place at Trinity Preparatory School in Winter Park, Fla., beginning this summer.

"We believe that there is a need for programs such as this to challenge high achieving students of Central Florida. Often time families must travel to other states to seek programs for their gifted children. MASA will help these families,"said Dr. Larry Chew, an Engineering Professor at the University of Central Florida.

An open house for students and parents to collect information and register for classes will be held on Saturday, May 17, from 9 a.m. to Noon, at the school. To RSVP contact the organizers directly at 407-924-4522 or evelynmasaflorida@yahoo.com. The website is http://www.masaflorida.org.
